This is actually my first time participating in the community. I had to re-join livejournal for one of my big bangs and decided to investigate what kind of SPN communities were on here. :> I did the coloring with watercolor paints but I did have to adjust the color levels in my digital art program (Manga Studio 5) as I'm sure many of you know how scanners really diminish the color of the pigment. Also, for fun, I applied a free texture to enhance the colors further. The white splatter is done with arcylic paint.

Thank you! I just recently started using the splatter technique. It is very messy (the first time, the paint really flew and got all over my wood floors and the sheets of my mattress. Since then I been using a large piece of cardboard but even then that isn't enough) but it is so worth it for the look it provides.

Thank you kindly! I love digital art, I get especially envious when some of the artwork I see looks so realistic as if it was a photo, but at heart I will always have a bias for traditional art. The only pain with watercolors is waiting for the paint to dry and sometimes I get so impatient especially when I only have a few hours to work on it at a time.

Thank you! For the lines, I used a black Copic marker (which works really well with watercolor, not all markers do) after I was done painting and applied the splatter effect. I always try to save the inking for last so that the lines stick out as I find doing them first leads them to getting washed out a bit (which is absolutely fine if you want lines that are more subtle and the bold lines are just my personal preference).

I only got into watercolor a couple of years ago and despite buying better products, I still default back to my cheap 36 color pan set that I got from Michael's. xD I actually started the base layers with my Derwent Inktense pencils but they weren't popping enough (I just purchased them the other week so I need to experiment with them more before I get confident in using them on their own) so I layered the cheaper paints over it.

It has been far too long since I played with traditional mediums. I especially miss my oil paints - as awesome as Corel Painter Essentials is, my basic version is no match for the real deal. *wonders how oils would translate if scanned, lol*
